Our award-winning Organic Artisan Cinnamon Raisin Maple Walnut Sourdough Bread is now available in a 1-pound Braided Challah-Style round loaf we call “Braidness™”. There’s 1 notable exception to this traditional bread: there’s no egg wash to give the bread a shiny, amber coating.

Although our Cinnamon Raisin Maple Walnut Sourdough is lightly sweetened with dark maple syrup and raisins, it tastes even sweeter when braided and baked!

To make this Braidness, Chef Randall took the dough of one of our sourdough batards (after overnight proofing in the refrigerator) and stretched it into 4 stands for braiding. It’s the same dough we bake our bread with but something happens when the dough is stretched and braided: it’s prevented from springing up during the bake as much as it would have if it were not constrained by the braid, resulting in a dense crumb that tastes sweeter than usual. Also, the crust is soft and very thin, so it can be eaten the same day it’s baked!

And the best part is tearing the bread apart, rather than slicing it! It takes some doing, but it’s worth it!
