As we moved closer to the holidays back in 2021, an idea came to me to make Gingerbread Sourdough Bread. In researching this special holiday flavor profile, I found there are many variations around the world. Some old-world traditional flavors are quite pronounced while more current offerings tend to be milder and sweeter. After testing two different recipes at that time, we found that both our stronger and milder versions were liked by our “beta-tasters.” So, we’ve settled on a spice blend that’s somewhere in between.
In keeping with our healthy tradition, there’s no brown or white sugar in this loaf, only the bittersweet flavor of organic Blackstrap Molasses (made from the third pressing of the sugar cane). To offset the bitterness, we’ve added organic non-alcoholic Vanilla extract. Of course there’s organic Ginger, Ceylon Cinnamon, Allspice, Nutmeg and Clove. Just add Raw Farm Butter (or this vegan butter option) and you’ve got a unique holiday treat! Then there’s the option of making French Toast with this GingerBreadness Sourdough (I can attest, it’s yummy!). (organic, vegan)
Note: Like our Cinnamon Raisin Maple Pecan loaf, our artisan GingerBreadness sourdough is baked, cured and sold either fresh or frozen at the peak of flavor (it restores to room temperature very well and we include an instruction card that explains how to do this for best results).
Place your order anytime before noon on your desired day of pickup and your loaf/loaves/butter will be ready for you when you come to the bakery on Friday (12-6), Saturday (12 to 6) or Sunday (11 to 4) at 2214 W. Magnolia Blvd. in Burbank.
